Board AI Advisor

  • Ongoing, quarterly
  • For Boards
  • Online · On site

An ongoing AI advisor to the board: an independent view on management's AI plans and reports, preparation and attendance at quarterly sessions, input to strategy days, and a direct line for the chair when an AI incident occurs.

Is this for you?

Who it is for

Supervisory and non-executive boards and their committees that see AI on the agenda every quarter, and want an independent view on management's AI plans without stepping into management's role.

Group size

The board or committee, typically 4 to 12 directors, with the chair as the main contact.

Prior knowledge

None required.

Core objectives

  1. 01Give the board an independent view on management's AI plans, business cases and reports
  2. 02Prepare and attend quarterly sessions with the board or committee
  3. 03Contribute to strategy days and deep dives
  4. 04Keep directors up to date on AI, rules and practice
  5. 05Support the chair when an AI incident occurs
Why it matters

Boards depend on management for most of what they hear about AI, and most directors have little time between meetings to follow how AI, its risks and its rules develop.

An independent advisor helps directors test what they hear and ask better questions.

How it works

  1. 01 Quarterly session with the board
  2. 02 Review notes on management's proposals
  3. 03 Input to the strategy day
  4. 04 Annual education and review

A fixed rhythm, repeated

The advisor works on a fixed rhythm: quarterly sessions with preparation and review notes on management's proposals, a contribution to the annual strategy day, and availability to the chair in between. Once a year, the advisor updates the board in a half-day education session and reviews how the board oversees AI, as part of its self-evaluation.

Deliverables

  • A quarterly advisory memo
  • Review notes on management proposals before board meetings
  • An annual education update for the board
  • An annual review of how the board oversees AI
